We have opened a new urogynaecological outpatient clinic

Hořovice Hospital expanded gynaecological care and opened a urogynaecological outpatient clinic. It is led by a leading expert, Prof. MUDr. Zdeněk Rušavý, Ph.D., who specializes in pelvic organ prolapse, female incontinence and other disorders related to impaired pelvic floor function.

"Respect for patients and their individual needs is the first priority in our clinic. We attend to each woman with the utmost care in order to understand her problems and offer optimal treatment. We try to find the most effective solution for each patient," says Prof. MUDr. Zdeněk Rušavý, Ph.D.

The new outpatient clinic focuses mainly on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic organ prolapse, i.e. descent of the uterus, bladder or rectum. This problem is a frequent consequence of childbirth or menopause, when the pelvic floor sags and is unable to provide sufficient support for the pelvic organs.

Modern approaches

If physiotherapy and other non-operative methods do not work, the hospital offers modern approaches that are gentle and effective in the long term. "If a woman wishes to preserve her uterus - and most do - and it is possible, we perform laparoscopic surgery using an implant. The latter is able to withstand the high pressure that is exerted on it despite the broken pelvic floor. For patients, this operation is also much better with regard to their intimate life," explains the urogynaecologist.

When diagnosing female incontinence - unwanted leakage of urine - Prof. Zdeněk Rušavý, M.D., Ph.D., cooperates with urologists in Horovice, who perform other specialized examinations, such as urodynamic examinations - during which the function of the lower urinary tract, bladder and urethra is evaluated.

Already for the first examination, Prof. MUDr. Rušavý, Ph.D., recommends bringing a micturition diary - a record of the frequency of urination, urgency and night waking up with the feeling of urging to urinate for the last two days. This summary will help the doctor more quickly evaluate the difficulty and determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

Women suffering from incontinence are offered a wide range of treatments, which are chosen based on the results of the examination and the patient's individual preferences. One of these is the insertion of a support band under the urethra. This short procedure, which is usually well tolerated by patients, can significantly reduce or completely eliminate the difficulty of leaking urine during physical exertion, such as walking or coughing.

Individual and discreet care

"Our goal is for every woman to leave with a sense of relief, confidence and renewed comfort. Therefore, after a careful diagnosis, we will provide all the necessary information to make an informed decision," adds Prof. Zdeněk Rušavý, M.D., Ph.D.

The urogynaecological outpatient clinic of the Hořovice hospital is open every even Friday from 8 am to 12 noon and from 1 pm to 3 pm. Patients can make an appointment via the hospital reception at +420 311 555 000.
