This already traditional event is mainly aimed at attracting young people to the idea of donation. An example is the Huml couple from Zdice, who brought their daughters with them. "We have donated blood approximately 15 times. We took our daughters with us this time, because we want them to know that we donate blood and to understand the importance of blood donation already in their childhood," explains Mrs Humlová. In addition to individual donors, several interest associations also took part in the event. Among them were, for example, about twenty employees of the Buzuluk company or firefighters from Křešín.
The Valentine's Day event was introduced by the head nurse of the transfusion unit and the deputy mayor of Hořovice , Jana Šrámková, who thanked all the donors present on behalf of the management of the hospital in Hořovice. The transfusion station organizes interesting events for donors throughout the year, such as St. Nicholas' gift or concerts with well-known performers. This is one of the reasons why the Hořovice Transfusion Station remains the most popular transfusion station in the Central Bohemia Region for donors. Last year, Hořovice set a new record: a total of 11,491 free blood donors, 836 more than in 2016. There were 518 first-time donors, which is exactly 100 more than in 2016. Among them were, for example, students of the Secondary Medical School or students of the Beroun Gymnasium J. Barrand.
Currently, the transfusion department has an appointment system, where the donor chooses a date to donate blood in a way that suits him or her health, work and private life. Donors can also make an appointment by calling 311 559 402 between 10.00 and 14.00 or by emailing darci@nemocnice-horovice.cz.
