"Blood donation is becoming popular nowadays and people are becoming more and more aware of the importance of donation," says Jana Šrámková, head nurse at the blood transfusion station. "I am very happy that the employees of the Hořovice hospital are also setting an example and every day I meet colleagues from the ranks of doctors, nurses, orderlies, as well as people from the operational and administrative departments. On behalf of the entire blood transfusion station, I would like to thank all of our employees, because thanks to them, we will be able to carry out 12,243 free blood donations in 2023," adds Šrámková.
This is a record number that the hospital has successfully increased every year. "The number of donations is growing every year. When I look at the statistics and see that in 1998, 6 257 donors came for a blood donation per year, and today we are almost double that, I am happy," adds the chief.
Transfusion stations try to motivate and reward their donors. First-time donors and donors who reach the anniversary donation receive small gifts. For example, on Valentine's Day, the transfusion station prepared a sweet treat for donors who came for collection on that day, in the form of a pink yolk wreath. "It's very nice and such a nice treat first thing in the morning will make your whole day more pleasant," said Lenka, who regularly comes for donations four times a year.
"It was touching for me when in December 2023 the former head of the gynaecology and obstetrics department, MUDr. Aleš Klán, came to donate blood for the 80th time. We started working together at the hospital in 1980, and the head doctor has been donating blood regularly all this time," recalls head nurse Šrámková.
The jubilee donation is also credited to the former mayor of Hořovice, Dr. Ing. Jiří Peřina, who visited us for the 120th time.
We thank all donors very much and look forward to the number of donations growing in the years to come.
