The physician of the department provides the service in both the standard children's ward and the children's ICU ward, as well as in the intensive care beds. At the same time, he prioritises the treatment of acute paediatric patients brought in from the region concerned by the ambulance service, as well as paediatric patients brought in for treatment by their parents. In 2015, an average of 8 children were treated as outpatients during the weekday from 15.30 to 22 hours, and an average of 23 children during weekend services; since the beginning of 2016, these figures have not changed significantly. According to the findings, these figures correspond to the number of children treated at the Příbram Hospital, for example, where the emergency service is provided by another doctor outside the children's ward and subsidised by the Regional Authority.
Last year, the Regional Authority of the Central Bohemia Region approved a subsidy of CZK 500 000, and these funds were fully used to partially cover the wage costs of the emergency room doctors. The approval of the subsidy was welcomed by the hospital management and the paramedics themselves, but the full operation of the emergency room is significantly more expensive. Therefore, the application for the subsidy was resubmitted this year with an increase in the amount requested to cover the full salary costs as well as energy and necessary material equipment for the operation of the LSP ambulance.
"The benefit of our efforts is to further improve the accessibility of the children's emergency room in our region," said MUDr. Mahulena Mojžíšová, the head of the children's department, who is behind the efforts to improve the operation of the children's emergency room in Hořovice. "It is important for us to provide comprehensive health care, which includes treatment of acute conditions of paediatric patients at times when the regular outpatient clinics are not open," added the Hořovice chief physician.
