Pharmacy Day in the sign of counselling

The Hořovice Hospital Pharmacy continues its tradition of participating in the annual event of the Czech Chamber of Pharmacy - Pharmacy Day, which this year falls on Thursday 21 June. The aim of this year's day is to bring the profession of pharmacist closer to the public. On this occasion, you can come to the hospital pharmacy in Hořovice to see for yourself the indispensability of pharmacists in the health care system.

"Few people expect more from their pharmacist than the dispensing of their medicine and information on whether to take it before or after a meal.Every pharmacist is an expert in medicines and as such knows what happens to medicines in the body. They can detect drug interactions, the possible causes of certain adverse events associated with the use of a given drug, fine-tune with the patient the timing and management of his drug therapy and advise on prevention or complementary treatments and regimens," says Mgr. Tomáš Veverka, head of the hospital pharmacy in Hořovice.

The profession of a pharmacist is associated with a great deal of responsibility. The knowledge of medicines and their correct use must be really precise, which is why future masters study for five years at university. "If you take a lot of medicines and want to make sure the correctness of the interactions, have some problems with your therapy or want advice on prevention, come to us to arrange a consultation, and not only during the Pharmacy Day," says Mgr. Marie Janatová, who is responsible for consultation activities with clients of the Hořovice pharmacy.

Another event currently taking place in the pharmacies is a collection for the organ of St. Vitus Cathedral. The Hořovice pharmacy is also involved in this national project. "Pharmacies that have signed up for the project have received a "St. Vitus" box. It is in the shape of a cylinder 250mm high and 110mm in diameter and is covered with a picture of the cathedral rosette with the symbol of the collection. The pharmacy will hand it in sealed at the end of the collection, which is scheduled to last approximately 1 year. In our pharmacy, it is placed at the free sales counter where anyone can contribute," adds Mgr. Tomáš Veverka.
