Hospital Hořovice offers one-day paediatric surgery for a wide range of elective procedures.
Parents can attend consultations and pre-operative assessments at AKESO Group healthcare facilities in Hořovice, Beroun, Prague or Plzeň. The planned paediatric day-case surgical procedures themselves take place at Hospital Hořovice.
Surgery does not necessarily mean a long stay in hospital
Surgery and a stay in hospital can be stressful for both the child and their parents. The child finds themselves in an unfamiliar environment and may feel anxious about the operation itself as well as being away from home. For selected planned operations, we therefore use a day-case surgery programme, which allows us to reduce the hospital stay to the absolute minimum.
“Thanks to modern medical procedures and careful post-operative monitoring, a hospital stay lasting several days is not necessary for selected procedures. After the operation and a subsequent assessment of their condition, the child can go home on the very same day,” explains Dr Jiří Jiráček, chief physician of the Paediatric Department at Hospital Hořovice.
Why choose one-day paediatric surgery?
- short hospital stay
- the child returns home on the day of the operation
- An experienced team of paediatric surgeons
- an individual approach to every patient
- Option for a parent to be present throughout the hospital stay
Modern paediatric surgery places emphasis not only on excellent medical outcomes, but also on ensuring the treatment is as gentle as possible and on the comfort of our young patients.
Every patient undergoes a pre-operative examination and preparation for the procedure. After the operation, they remain under the supervision of an experienced medical team, who monitor their condition and assess whether it is safe to discharge the child to home care.
What matters to us is not only a high-quality operation, but also the child’s safety and support for parents throughout their care. We are able to ensure this thanks to our experienced team and the comprehensive facilities of the paediatric department,” adds paediatric surgeon Dr Vojtěch Dotlačil, Ph.D., a member of the paediatric surgery team at AKESO Holding.
What procedures do we perform?
- surgery for umbilical and inguinal hernias
- hydrocele (water hernia) surgery
- treatment of phimosis (tight foreskin)
- surgery for undescended testicles
- Removal of haemangiomas and other skin growths
- Removal of molluscum contagiosum under general anaesthesia
How does the treatment work?
The first step is a consultation at the paediatric surgery outpatient clinic. The physician will examine the child, explain the treatment options and assess whether surgery is appropriate.
If surgery is indicated, parents will receive information about the date, the pre-operative examination by their child’s physician, fasting requirements prior to anaesthesia, and what to bring to hospital.
On the day of the operation, the child is admitted to Hospital Hořovice. After the procedure, they remain under the supervision of the medical team. A follow-up check-up will take place, as agreed, at one of our outpatient clinics.
The convenience of day-case care and the safety of the paediatric ward
However, Hospital Hořovice also has a fully equipped paediatric ward with experienced paediatricians and specialist paediatric nurses.
If a child requires longer monitoring after the procedure, further care, including an overnight stay, can be arranged directly at the hospital. Parents can therefore rest assured that their child is in the care of an experienced paediatric team at all times.
