"The more we try to clean our ears, the more likely we are to harm ourselves. Especially when using cotton buds, which can cause damage to the ear canal. If possible, we should not mechanically interfere with the ear," warns the doctor.
At the same time, she recommends how to keep the ears clean in a gentle way:
"None of us wants them dirty, that would not be very appealing. But it's really enough to use oily ear sprays or oils that you apply two or three times a week to your ear," Zavázalová advised. The oil will soften the earwax, which gets outwards due to the movement of the jaw. Then just wipe off the excess with a tissue.
MUDr. Šárka Zavázalová is a physician with extensive experience in otorhinolaryngology (ENT) and hearing disorders. She provides comprehensive ENT care to adult patients at the hospital in Hořovice, also through a hearing aid clinic.
