Jan Calta came from an artistic family, born in 1951 in Prague. His father was a stage designer and his mother was an actress. He graduated from the 2nd Medical Faculty in 1978. His specialty was rehabilitation and physical medicine. Rehabilitation medicine became, besides photography, a great passion of his life. He was distinguished by the fact that he not only had a rare feeling and sense for new directions in the field of rehabilitation, but also had the necessary courage and indomitable will to fight and push them through.
Since 2000 he started to cooperate with Ing. Sotirios Zavalianis, with whom he created a new strategy for further development, first for the Multiscan Medical Group and then for the Beroun Hospital. The local Rehabilitation Centre, the largest and most modern facility of its kind in the country, is his brainchild. Several years of successful operation of the Beroun Rehabilitation Centre document the correctness of Dr. Calta's choice, vision and innovative procedures.
In addition to his inventiveness in transforming the Beroun and Hořovice hospitals beyond recognition in terms of appearance, equipment and medical procedures, Dr. Calta has contributed to transforming their premises into literally a gallery of beautiful photographs taken by him. Photography has been with him since he was very young. Even as a young boy he had the opportunity to watch Josef Sudek at work, who was a very good friend of his parents. Dr. Calta specialized mainly in panoramic photographs and his photos have been exhibited several times. His last exhibition "Frames and other still lifes" is a permanent exhibition in the Beroun hospital.
His co-workers and his patients will remember Dr. Calta as a sharp man who often did not go far for a sharp word. Apart from his work ethic and a certain zeal in pursuing and implementing his plans, he was above all characterised by his honesty and fair treatment of all his co-workers.
The management and work teams of Mulstiscan Inc., Jessenia Inc. and NH Hospital Inc. express their deepest condolences to his wife and our colleague Jana and also to Dr. Calta's children.
