The Hořovice Transfusion Station is the largest department of its kind in the Central Bohemia Region. It registers more than 5,000 donors and almost 11,000 blood donations per year. On Monday, 76 donors arrived for transfusion, including two first-time donors. "We try to motivate donors, especially young donors, and also thank them for their charity. The St Nicholas Day collection, where nurses and orderlies dressed up in devil costumes and distributed gifts, has become a tradition. This was the third time we celebrated this holiday in the transfusion department and I think it was very successful. The devilish atmosphere was enjoyed not only by the donors, but also by us. I would therefore like to thank the whole team who entertained the donors," says Jana Šrámková, head nurse of the Hořovice Transfusion Department.
Anyone between the ages of 18 and 60 can become a blood donor. They must be healthy to donate. Whether the donor is eligible for donation will be assessed individually by a medical professional directly at the transfusion department. "We are always delighted with new donors. It is a signal to us that people are not indifferent to the health of others. Often we encounter that donors bring a successor from their family before it is time to stop donating because of their old age, because they take blood donation as their civic duty," emphasised the head nurse of the Horovice transfusion department.
The fact that the Hořovice hospital values its donors is also reflected in the events that the blood transfusion station regularly organises for them, such as concerts or the February event for St. Valentine's Day - Do you love? For its donors, the Hořovice Hospital also implements a free preventive health programme tailored to the age of blood donors.
