Individual care brings choice, choose your midwife

16. 5. 2024

We care very much that the mother leaves us with the best experiences and impressions of childbirth, so the management of the gynaecology and obstetrics department meets the repeated requests of future mothers and now offers the opportunity to choose their midwife who will accompany them to the birth.

All of our midwives are friendly and empathetic to all mothers-to-be, however some women wish to have a familiar soulmate with them, so we have extended our services to include this option. Establishing a relationship between the midwife and the woman giving birth, a mutual understanding and appreciation can help establish a much needed atmosphere of calm and reassurance.

In our maternity hospital, this service is offered by erudite and educated midwives with experience who are used to working independently. They are familiar with the philosophy of our facility and care for women in close collaboration with our doctors. On admission to the delivery room, the attending physician decides whether the midwife will conduct the birth independently or in collaboration with the physician.

So how does the service work?

You can choose your midwife on the Altoa website. You will meet the midwife before the birth so that you both know in advance what you want. The midwife will then be ready to go into labour with you at any time from the 38th week of pregnancy, and will be with you throughout your stay in the delivery room until you are transferred to the postnatal ward.

What is included in the service?

  • Two face-to-face meetings before the birth
  • on call from 38 weeks of pregnancy and a health consultation.
  • Consultation on the birth plan
  • a tour of the delivery room and the six-week ward at the Sun Gate Maternity Hospital
  • making a list of items and documents needed for the stay in the maternity hospital
  • taking and writing up medical history and obstetric history
  • accompanying you throughout your stay in the delivery room
  • a postnatal visit to the six-week ward

We recommend that you contact your chosen midwife after the 25th week of pregnancy. This service is not covered by health insurance.
