Charles University together with the Czech Medical Society J. E. Purkyně took over the patronage of the international project "Czech Perinatology Hands Fly to Cambodia", which focuses mainly on improving the knowledge of Cambodian specialists and implementing recommendations based on Evidence Based Medicine for life-threatening maternal and child conditions in the Southeast Asian region.

Within the framework of this project, a very successful 12-day mission took place in Phnom Penh in January this year, where 16 experts from the field of perinatology, neonatology, intensive care medicine and specialists from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of CTU organized nearly 50 lectures and 10 workshops.

However, the cooperation does not end there. Following this trip, 21 specialists from the National Paediatric Hospital in Phnom Penh have now visited the Czech Republic. The Cambodian doctors and midwives, including the top management of the National Paediatric Hospital, will have two weeks of intensive training under the guidance of specialists from Prague, the Central Bohemia Region, Pardubice and Plzeň.

During the visit to the Czech Republic, the delegation also visited our maternity hospital U Sluneční brány.

"We are very pleased that we could show the Cambodian obstetrics specialists our modern facilities and present the level of care we provide to our patients in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics, up to the follow-up care in the six-week-old and neonatology wards. It is always very interesting to hear how patients are cared for in other countries," described Tereza Ježková, MD, head of the labour wards.
