Children's NIP doctors contribute to the development of health professionals' education at European level

The Chief of the Department of Pediatric Intensive Care, Daniel Blažek, MD, and his deputy Jana Djakow, MD, PhD, attended one of the first Advancel Life Support (ALS) courses held under the auspices of the Czech Resuscitation Council (CRC) in Prague and led by foreign instructors due to the accreditation of our own Czech instructors. After graduation both of our doctors became full instructors and since then they have been involved in teaching resuscitation in ALS courses organized by CRR mainly in Hradec Králové, but also in other places in the country.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Djakow also attended the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course in the UK and subsequently both doctors attended the European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS) course in Birmingham, which focuses on resuscitation of children.

Jana Djakow became a member of the CRR committee focusing on paediatric resuscitation and its teaching and was subsequently accepted as a member of the European Resuscitation Council for the Czech Republic.

Both of our doctors were until recently the only instructors for EPALS in the Czech Republic!

Under the leadership of Dr. Djakow, as the course director, they started teaching this course in the Czech Republic under the auspices of the CRR together with other foreign instructors for EPALS. The aim was to train our own instructors for the course so that the teaching in our country could be done in Czech language for our colleagues. This goal has been achieved and CRR organizes several courses of this kind every year. There is a huge demand for participation in them and so the capacity is not nearly enough to meet the demand. Details can be found on the CRR website (www.resuscitace.cz).

Chief Blažek and his deputy M.D. Djakow regularly attend EPALS courses throughout Europe. Most recently they visited Norrkoping, Sweden. Together with colleagues from Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland, they gave lectures on paediatric resuscitation for Swedish doctors and nurses.

In this way, our children's NICU physicians are making a significant contribution to the spread of education among healthcare professionals not only in our country, but literally all over Europe.
