The head of the children's ward of the Hořovice Hospital and DIOP, chair of the Section of Children's Palliative Care of the ČSPM ČLS JEP, external physician of the Journey Home and member of the board of directors of the Pallium Institute, MUDr. Mahulena Exnerová was a guest of the program Visit to TN Live.

In it, she spoke very openly about children's palliative care - a field that is not only demanding but also deeply sensitive to human emotions. She mentioned that caring for a seriously ill child is not only medical, but also includes psychological and social support for the whole family.

"The number of families with children with serious illness is greater than we may realize. Listening, respect for each family's story and the ability of professionals to be truly supportive play a very important role," said Mahulena Exnerová, MD.

While working in the palliative care unit, the chief doctor says it is important to maintain a balance between the necessary level of empathy and the ability to tune in to stories, to listen, but also not to take work home. "This is a topic for everyone in the helping professions," adds MUDr. Mahulena Exnerová.
