In it, she spoke very openly about children's palliative care - a field that is not only demanding but also deeply sensitive to human emotions. She mentioned that caring for a seriously ill child is not only medical, but also includes psychological and social support for the whole family.
"The number of families with children with serious illness is greater than we may realize. Listening, respect for each family's story and the ability of professionals to be truly supportive play a very important role," said Mahulena Exnerová, MD.
While working in the palliative care unit, the chief doctor says it is important to maintain a balance between the necessary level of empathy and the ability to tune in to stories, to listen, but also not to take work home. "This is a topic for everyone in the helping professions," adds MUDr. Mahulena Exnerová.
