Celebrating World Blood Donor Day

15. 6. 2020

The globally recognised Blood Donor Day falls on 14 June. Thank you to all blood donors who visit our blood transfusion station.

"We would like to thank all the donors who, despite the situation in recent weeks, have not stopped donating blood," said Jana Šrámková, the head nurse at the blood transfusion station: "I have been at the transfusion department for over 30 years and I know many of the donors personally. I say that we are one big family. And since they say that blood doesn't flow from strangers, it must be true. At this time, we want to thank our donors for their dedication and cooperation, but most of all for their bravery and optimism with which they come to our ward. In return, we can offer them a pleasant environment, kind treatment and a smile that is currently not visible. The patients thank all the donors for saving their lives, realizing that they cannot do without blood and make a miraculous recovery. Those who give from the heart give twice."

Our blood collection site is the largest in the Central Bohemia region. We register around 12,000 donations a year.

Every year we organise a musical concert for donors in the premises of the cultural house in Hořovice or Beroun. Our donors were able to attend the performance of Miro Žbirka and his band, dance to the hits of the band Žlutý pes or listen to the concert of Tomáš Klus. This year, unfortunately, the concert for donors had to be cancelled due to the set anti-epidemiological measures. All the more we are looking forward to next year's event, which will be spectacular again. Those who came to donate blood today, on this important day, received a dessert from Zavalianis Sweet Café at least as a small thank you.
