Fortunately, there are people among us who are not indifferent to the fate of cancer patients and try to make it more pleasant for them. One of them is Mrs. Věrka, the founder of the PodČepičkou Foundation, which, as she says, was created to spread joy and return faith in life.
This year is the fifth year in a row that this kind and modest lady has distributed joy and hope to cancer patients. In 2023, she delivered nearly 3,000 cotton caps to patients who are losing their hair due to chemotherapy. Her caps have reached exactly 20 clinics and hospitals.
We were extremely pleased that the Hořovice Hospital and its oncology department were among them.
Probably all that we would like to say about this nice foundation is summed up by the thanks of our patient, who received one of these beautiful, hand-sewn cotton caps on Friday, February 2, 2024.
"Hello, on Friday I received your cap in the oncology hospital in Hořovice. I must say that it made me very happy. It was very encouraging for me as a patient. At that moment you really feel that you are not alone, and the message in the card - Get well - got to me in a good way. I would like to thank you for the hat (I have such a superoptimistic pattern), you have a very beautiful project that brings joy even in not always joyful moments and I wish there were more people like that. Thank you again, Martina."
Martina, a patient from Hořovice, was one of the many who were delighted by the gift. But there are other patients, all over the Czech Republic, to whom Věrka delivers joy.
If anyone would like to get involved in spreading joy, they can join the many volunteers who help Věrka sew the caps. Detailed instructions on how to sew the cap and how to dispose of it so that it reaches those who will receive joy are freely available on their website .
