Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Czech women. About 6 000 new cases are diagnosed every year. "The greatest risk of this disease is after the age of 40, but it does not avoid younger patients either. Since we believe that the role of our hospital is not only to provide quality treatment, but also to prevent and educate, we have prepared this cultural and educational event, in which we try to combine the useful with the pleasant," says MUDr. Jana Ziková, a doctor at the Hořovice Internal Medicine Hospital.
The lectures of the doctors from Hořovice will focus on the possibilities of prevention and treatment of breast cancer. For example, MUDr. Martin Šmakal, head of the oncology inpatient unit, will talk about the incidence of breast cancer in the Beroun and Hořovice regions, while the lecture of MUDr. Markéta Veverková, head of the internal medicine department, will be on the topic of "the oncology patient through the eyes of a hospital internist." The doctors will also provide information about the possibility of examination and explain the correct procedure for breast self-examination, including practice on a phantom breast model.
In addition to information on prevention and treatment, the awareness-raising event will also be dedicated to patients with this diagnosis, who will be able to learn about the activities of the largest patient organisation - Mamma HELP. This organisation provides all-round support to women with breast cancer and their loved ones.
