Benefit concert for the Children's Intensive Care Unit

25. 5. 2018

On 24 May 2018, a benefit concert of the Kliment Quintet took place at the Church of St. Kliment in Prague 1. The proceeds from the event were donated to the Žirafka Foundation. In the church, compositions by important composers such as Bohuslav Martinů, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Joachim Quantze were performed.

The concert was organized in support of the Children's Intensive Care Unit (OCHRIP) at the Hořovice Hospital. The department, which was the first of its kind in the Czech Republic, provides care for children of all ages with various types of diagnoses chronically affecting basic life functions.

"The concert was not only a great cultural experience, but also an event that brought together both lovers of classical music and people who wanted to contribute to a good cause," praised the event the head of OCHRIP, MUDr. Daniel Blažek. "Our ward was first opened in March 2014. The current capacity of the ward is six beds. However, there are a lot of patients requiring this kind of care in the Czech Republic and they are taking up acute resuscitation and intensive care beds, which should be used for new acute admissions. Therefore, Hořovice Hospital will expand the ward with follow-up and intensive care for children to 13 beds," said the head of the ward.

The Zirafka Endowment Fund was established to help and support all paediatric patients hospitalized in the three children's wards of Hořovice Hospital. It is intended for the neonatal ward with an intensive care unit caring for newborns from the 31st week of pregnancy, the children's ward, which provides care for children of all ages, and the intensive care unit for children. "The Zirafka Foundation was established in 2016. Our mission is to help and support paediatric patients who are hospitalized at the Hořovice Hospital and their family members during their treatment," said Milena Dokoupilová, MD, head of the neonatal ward and founder of the fund.
