Department of Neurology

The Neurology Department provides diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of diseases of the nervous system, i.e. the brain, peripheral nerves and other structures. Standard beds, monitored intermediate care beds and monitored intensive care beds are available for hospitalized patients. For patients in standard beds, continuous monitoring of cardiac activity (ECG telemetry) is possible. Thanks to close cooperation with other departments of the hospital and specialised centres in higher-level hospitals, full patient care is ensured.

The neurology department provides diagnosis and treatment of these diseases:

  • vertebrogenic disorders ranging from simple back pain to root syndromes in intervertebral disc prolapse
  • muscle diseases - myopathies, myotonia, myositis, polymyalgia
  • neuromuscular transmission disorders - myasthenia, myasthenic sy.
  • peripheral nerve disorders - polyneuropathy, mononeuropathy, cranial neuropathy - especially peripheral paresis n. VII, III, trigeminal neuralgia, brachial or lumbar plexus disorders, isthmus syndrome
  • spinal cord diseases - vascular myelopathy, inflammatory myelitis, spinal tumours, degenerative spinal processes
  • demyelinating diseases - multiple sclerosis,...
  • stroke, including the possibility of thrombolysis in cooperation with the Ict Centre
  • brain tumours in collaboration with neurosurgeons and oncologists
  • extrapyramidal system disorders - Parkinson's disease, Parkinson plus, hepatolenticular degeneration, hyperkinetic-hypotonic syndromes,...
  • epilepsy and epileptic syndromes
  • other seizure disorders - e.g. neuralgia n. V, IX, Meniere's disease, migrainous cephalea
  • neuroinfections with subsequent referral to the care of a specialised infectious disease unit

On the day of your scheduled appointment, please come directly to the neurology department no later than 10:00 a.m. (unless otherwise arranged).

Consent to the procedure or surgery

You will be asked to give written consent on the Patient Informed Consent Form for more complex diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. This will give you general information about the operation or procedure, its benefits and possible complications. A detailed explanation and the individual treatment procedure will be given to you by the attending physician.

Ward regime

On the standard ward: morning 8:00 - 10:00 a.m., evening 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
On the IMP ward: morning 9:00 - 10:00 am, evening 6:00 - 7:00 pm.
Primary care rounds are twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Serving meals

Breakfast: 7:15 - 7:30 a.m.
Lunch: 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Snack: 15:00 - 15:30
Dinner: 17:00 - 17:30

Lunchtime rest and sleep

Lunch break: 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Bedtime: 10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

Silence and quiet heals. Do not disturb other patients with noisy behaviour, be tolerant and considerate. Turn off your cell phones or set them to silent mode during these hours.

Room facilities

Each room is equipped with toilet, sink and shower, television, wardrobes.

Health information for the patient's relatives


Health information is confidential and we can only disclose it with the patient's consent to persons designated in writing by the patient on the Consent for Hospital Admission. It will be provided by the attending physician in the afternoon or by prior arrangement with the ward nurses.

What to bring?

- ID card or other proof of identity (passport)
- health insurance card
- referral for hospitalisation and results of previous examinations
- disability card (if you have one)
- personal belongings:
pyjamas (nightwear)
dressing gown
slippers (non-slip, comfortable, without heels)
personal hygiene items
towel
if you need anything special, you can find out from the ward staff and on the ward website.
- medication: during your stay in hospital, all medication is prescribed by the attending doctor and administered by the nurse. If you are taking certain medicines to treat a specific condition, take them with you to the hospital and give them to the nurse when you arrive on the ward. The attending physician will include them among the medications that will be given to you during your hospital stay. Do not take any medicines during your stay in hospital without the doctor's knowledge. You will receive your medication from the nurses in the exact dose and at the exact time.

Do not carry: large sums of money, valuables, weapons.
There is a wardrobe for storing clothes during your stay in the hospital; items of daily personal use can be stored in the table next to the bed. Valuables, jewellery, larger sums of money and important documents are recommended to be stored with the nursing staff.


The recommended visiting hours
in the neurology department are every day from 14:00 - 18:00, by appointment with the attending staff from 7:00 - 19:00.

In intensive care beds (ICU) it is advisable to limit the number of people to 2, visits with children under 3 years of age are not appropriate.

It will be provided by the attending physician in the afternoon or by prior arrangement with the ward nurses.

Prices of superior rooms and beds:

  • Single room / superior room 1200 CZK/day

  • Double and triple rooms are not covered

Billing and payment:
The final amount for the extra room, extra food and drinks is paid at the end of the hospitalization at the NH cash desk. You can pay on weekdays until 15:30 by credit card or cash. Outside working hours, on weekends and on holidays when the cash desk is closed, pay the bill at the ward (cash only). In both cases, you will receive a receipt for payment.
