Call for blood donors

15. 10. 2025

With the arrival of autumn, respiratory illnesses are on the rise, sapping the strength of even blood donors, any help is extremely valuable. The Transfusion Department of Hořovice Hospital thanks all those who come to donate and invites new donors to help replenish the blood supply for patients who need it most.

In connection with the higher incidence of respiratory diseases and the subsequent recovery, blood donors have been decreasing in recent weeks and blood supplies are gradually becoming thinner. We therefore invite all regular donors and first-time donors to book their donation appointment.

When can you donate blood after illness?

Donors can donate blood after an upper respiratory illness with symptoms such as a runny nose, cough, sore throat or raised temperature no sooner than 2 weeks after symptoms have completely resolved or antibiotics have finished. "We will be happy if all our healthy donors subscribe to the donation and we will also welcome first-time donors," says Pavlína Nováková, head nurse of the Horovice Transfusion Department.

Who can donate blood?

  • Healthy people aged 18 to 65 (proc donors up to 60 years)
  • men up to 5 times a year
  • women up to 4 times a year
  • minimum interval between donations is 10 weeks

Benefits for donors

Donors are entitled to a day off work after a non-contributory donation. For each free donation, they can deduct CZK 3,000 from their annual tax base. In addition to these benefits from the state, donors can also benefit from contributions from health insurance companies. In addition, donors of the Transfusion Department of Hořovice Hospital can benefit from a preventive programme - more information can be found on the hospital' s website.
