"Events focused on blood donation are not new in Hořovice," says Jana Šrámková, head nurse of the Hořovice blood transfusion station. She adds with an understandable amount of pride that the Hořovice blood transfusion station is the largest of its kind in the entire Central Bohemia Region. "Last year alone, more than 11,081 free donors passed through its gates. Of this number, 550 were new donors and the number was similar in previous years," says the Hořovice health worker.
A number of professional and interest associations have played a major role in this success. Undoubtedly, these include the Hořovice Mothers, members of the Police of the Czech Republic from Beroun and Rudná, students of Beroun secondary schools, etc. The management of the hospital is very helpful and the environment in which the donor moves is modernised and constantly improved. For us, the satisfaction of the donor is a great benefit, because such a donor is very often a guarantee that they will bring another donor, e.g. someone from their family, work or friend," explains Mrs Šrámková. She also adds that the Hořovice Hospital organises various events for its blood donors. "Today it was a Valentine's Day event. Last year, the hospital management organised a concert by Tomáš Klus for jubilee blood donors at the Social House in Hořovice on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day (14 June 2014). Blood donors can also take advantage of a free package of preventive examinations as part of a programme prepared especially for them by the hospital. We could write about many other events," says the head nurse in Hořovice.
At present, the transfusion department has an appointment system where the donor chooses a date to donate blood in a way that suits him or her health, work and private life. The donor can also make an appointment by phone at 311 542 225 between 10.00 and 14.00 or by email darci@nemocnice-horovice.cz. In the event that a blood group is in short supply, the transfusion department sends invitations to donors or invites them by phone. "There is a need to organise these events as there are more long-standing donors but fewer new ones. Young donors were also the primary target of our event: do you love? Donate blood!" adds Šrámková.
