"We are the largest blood donation station in the Czech Republic," says head nurse Jana Šrámková proudly. "We are glad that there are so many people among the inhabitants of the Central and West Bohemian Region who are willing to come to the Hořovice transfusion centre and donate blood. We believe that it is also thanks to us, the staff, who always try to make their time spent with us more pleasant."
Donors are given coffee or tea and a small snack before the collection, as it is not good to come to the collection on an empty stomach. After the collection they receive small gifts, depending on the number of collections. The most valuable gift so far has been a branded watch given to Mr Francis for reaching 160 blood donations.
"For donating blood we also organise a music concert every year, which is only for donors, a well-known band always performs and there is a raffle for a trip to Greece for two people. So far, the performance of Miró Žbirka and his band three years ago has been the most popular. This year we had to postpone the concert due to the spread of coronavirus, but we hope that the sanitary-epidemiological situation will allow us to organize the concert next year. These concerts tend to be a nice meeting with people who are united by the desire to help others. There is always a great atmosphere. For blood donors, we have also created an offer of preventive programmes at the Hořovice Hospital, which donors can use once every two years during the time they are a registered blood donor at our hospital," concluded Mrs Šrámková.
