In the Czech Republic, the prize is awarded by Nedoklubko, a non-profit organization that has long supported families of premature babies, cooperates with neonatal centres and raises public awareness of the issue of premature births. The symbol of the purple heart, which was originally a military decoration for courage, now represents an appreciation of humanity and strength - values that are absolutely crucial for neonatology. The aim of this award is to thank those who not only professionally but also humanly stand by families at the very beginning of their journey with their baby.
Two nominations for Hořovice
This year, the Neonatology Department of Hořovice Hospital has two representatives among the nominees. MUDr. Milena Dokoupilová, head of the Neonatology Department, who has been working at the Hořovice hospital for 14 years, was nominated in the category of doctor. She has devoted her professional career to caring for the smallest patients and supporting their families in the often very difficult beginning of life.
"Caring for premature babies is not only professionally demanding, but above all it requires a very empathetic approach. Every baby and every parent has their own unique story. And we are here to help them go through their journey with the greatest possible hope," adds the headmistress with a smile.
MUDr. Milena Dokoupilová is one of the doctors who combine high expertise with natural calmness. In crisis situations, she is able to bring reassurance not only to her team, but especially to parents who find themselves in a difficult moment in their lives. Every child who manages to make it through a difficult time is always a small miracle and a great joy for her.
A heart in the right place
In the nurse category, Anna Tušková, Dis., a nurse from the Neonatology Department of the Hořovice Hospital, who has been caring for the smallest patients for many years with extraordinary patience, kindness and devotion, was nominated. Her work is not just a profession for her, but a true mission.
"Every smile of the parents and every small victory of the children is a huge reward for me. I am also very happy that I stay in touch with the families even after I leave the hospital. They send me photos and sometimes they come to visit us. This is the biggest feedback for me," says nurse Anna Tušková, DiS.
Colleagues describe her as "a nurse with an open heart". Every day she brings a smile, calmness and energy to work, which is needed not only by babies but also by their parents. In addition to expert care, she helps mothers with their first touches and teaches them to believe that even the smallest children have the strength to fight. It is this combination of expertise and empathy that has earned her the appreciation of colleagues and parents alike.
The winners are decided by parents and the public themselves through a vote that runs until 31 October 2025. Support our nominees, you can vote HERE.
