Medical students are helping us on the front line

9. 4. 2020

On the front line, alongside our doctors and nurses, are medics from the 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, who have volunteered to help our hospital. Their task is to detect possible infections in incoming patients, thanks to which they increase the protection of hospitalized patients and our hospital staff.

The hospital management and medical staff are also satisfied with their work:

MUDr. Michal Průša, MBA
Director of Hořovice Hospital

"During the period when the COVID epidemic was expected to develop rapidly, we introduced triage tents in front of the entrance to the central reception of the hospital as one of the measures to prevent the spread of the infection. The creation of this new facility naturally burdened the hospital with the need for additional staff. Therefore, in this situation, we very much welcomed the help of the medics who, after training, became involved in the investigation of the patients. I appreciate their commitment and dedication to the care of our common patients and I am very pleased that the future generation of doctors has these qualities."

František Vlček, M.D., Ph.D., MHA
Director of Process, Quality and Efficiency at Akeso Holding a.s.

"I have to say that I admire them. Right from the moment the university closed, they started reaching out and volunteering. I know many of them from lectures and seminars at the college, yet I didn't expect such a great willingness to help and bravery to really work on the front line, and across all years - we have students from second to sixth year. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't be able to staff the positions they now hold and the hospital wouldn't be as well protected as it is with them. I'm also pleased with how they've gotten along with the hospital and the other staff, and how quickly they've picked up the necessary procedures and rules. It is a good experience for them once they start working in a hospital as doctors themselves. Who knows, maybe it will be here."

MUDr. Ondřej Beneš
Head of Central Receiving at Hořovice Hospital

"We evaluate the work of the medics in the filtration tent in a positive way, they worked quickly, they help a lot in the basic triage of all patients coming to the hospital. They manage their work very well."

MUDr. Mahulena Exnerová
Head of the Children's Ward of Hořovice Hospital

"I was very pleased with the support of the hospitals from the medical students. They set to work with great determination and enthusiasm. They work knowing that in our hospital they are in the front line in the fight against COVID-19, because they are the ones who have a responsible position in the triage tent, which at the moment serves as the only entrance to the hospital. I think this is good training for them to gain valuable experience for their future medical practice. During their time here, I can say that our medics are people who are destined for the medical profession. Every single one of them is empathetic, erudite and always willing to help."

Andrea Kropáčová
Head of the Human Resources Department of Hořovice Hospital

"I can only praise the cooperation with the medics so far, it has been trouble-free. They are all very helpful with any administrative tasks that need to be completed before and during work in our medical facility. You can see from their responsible attitude that they are ready for real employment."
