Last week, students from the Joachim Barrand Gymnasium in Beroun held the 45th group volunteer blood donation at our blood transfusion station. "This time the future high school graduates came with me. There are 18 of us and more than half of them are here for the first time," said teacher Mgr. Marie Štěpničková, who has been organising blood donations at the Beroun Gymnasium for several years. "We come three times a year at the request of our students. It is a tradition," added Mgr. Marie Štěpničková shortly after her 75th donation.

The transfusion station of the Hořovice hospital is the largest collection point in the Central Bohemia Region. Last year, a record 12,243 free donations were made here. A major contribution to this was made not only by professional and regional sports associations, but also by the secondary schools in Beroun and Hořovice. "We greatly appreciate the dedicated and meritorious work of the students and their teachers. We have many first-time donors among high school students, who very often become our much-needed regular donors," said Pavlína Nováková, head nurse of the Hořovice blood transfusion station.

Blood can be donated by healthy people aged 18 to 65. Only a healthy individual under 60 years of age can be a first-time donor. Those interested in donating blood and donors can make an appointment at the Hořovice Hospital transfusion station on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. by calling 311 559 402 and 311 559 555.
