A great deal of credit for the first place of the Hořovice transfusion party in the Central Bohemia Region goes to the associations, societies and interest groups that regularly donate blood. Traditionally, students from the Gymnasium J. Barrand from Beroun are among them (see photo gallery). The events of the Beroun Gymnasium have for many years been in charge of Mgr. Marie Štěpničková. "This year we have a goal to provide 100 donations in three collection dates in honour of the 100th anniversary of the founding of our republic," says the Beroun educator.
However, there are still new associations that want to contribute together to a good cause, such as the HC Spartak Žebrák hockey players (see introductory photo), who came to donate blood with the gymnasts this week.
The event of about twenty Žebrák hockey players was organized by their coach David Jícha, who explained that this event was dedicated to the memory of former head coach František Krejčí, who died in January this year, at the age of 72. František Krejčí served as the club's chairman for 45 years. "To honour his memory, our boys decided to start donating blood regularly. 80% of them were all first-time donors," says Coach Jícha.
Among the other most diligent associations are also the Police of the Czech Republic, not only from Beroun and Hořovice (the event is organized by spokeswoman Marcela Pučelíková), but also Zbiroh and now also Příbram. Other very exemplary donors are the students of the Beroun Secondary School (organized by Mgr. Hana Macháčková) and the Gymnasium VH Hořovice (organized by Mgr. Martin Solař). We must not forget the firefighters from Křešín, Tlustice, Žebrák and Drahelčice.
For its donors, the Hořovice Hospital implements a free preventive health programme, which is tailored to blood donors according to their age. This is also one of the reasons why the Hořovice transfusion centre remains the most popular for donors in the Central Bohemia region. At present, the transfusion department has an appointment system where the donor chooses a date to donate blood in a way that suits him or her health, work and private life.
