The presence of fathers at childbirth

16. 4. 2020

Hořovice Hospital allows the presence of a third person at the birth, i.e. the other parent or another household member at the birth.

The third person is the child's other parent or a person living in the same household as the parent.

The presence of third parties at the birth is allowed only if several conditions are met:

  • the accompanying person must be equipped with a new drape and disposable gloves;
  • they must undergo a basic examination before entering the hospital;
  • contact with a person with a febrile illness must be excluded;
  • the body temperature of the accompanying person must be below 37°C.

The delivery will take place in a separate delivery room or box with its own sanitary facilities; the accompanying person may leave this area only with the consent of the medical staff of the delivery room. Permission for a third person to be present in the delivery room may be withdrawn by the delivery room doctor for serious reasons.

The management of the hospital and the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department asks for a responsible attitude of accompanying persons to comply with the above mentioned conditions in view of the potential danger to the parturients, newborns and staff.
