Our maternity hospital joined the Perinatal project

6. 10. 2023

The project can detect psychological problems in pregnant and postpartum women in the very embryo. It was created by the team of the Perinatal Mental Health Centre of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and involves several maternity hospitals and outpatient clinics, including our maternity hospital U Sluneční brány.

At the Hořovice Hospital, the Perinatal project is led by Jan Andert, MD, and Lenka Jelínková, MD, doctors of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department.

Since when is the Hořovice Maternity Hospital involved in the Perinatal programme?

Hořovice Hospital joined the Perinatal programme on 31 August 2023. The care of patients in the six-week ward from the perspective of their psychology is very important and we are glad that the project fills a missing gap in care, especially nowadays when psychological care is very scarce.

How many women have you tested?

We offer the questionnaire via tablet to all parents. Almost 100 mothers have completed it since the project was founded.

How many of them have the tests revealed risk signs of postnatal depression or anxiety?

We do not have the results of the questionnaire survey at this time. The completed form is sent to the National Institute of Mental Health where it is evaluated.

How do you proceed if a patient's tests identify risk symptoms for postpartum depression or anxiety?

If risk is identified, the mother is already contacted by a trained specialist with her own experience of postnatal difficulties, who will refer her to other specialists if she is experiencing difficulties.
