"The decision to vaccinate against COVID-19 in pregnancy is a personal, individual choice for each woman. However, we would like to recommend the vaccination to all pregnant patients, especially those who are at higher risk of infection and possibly at increased risk of a severe course, which may be pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy," says Leoš Teslík, MD, Chief of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department at Hořovice Hospital.
We believe that vaccination of pregnant women will also help to control the wave of COVID-19 in the Czech Republic and that it is a safe step that can save the health and life of the pregnant woman and her fetus.
"We also want to reassure all mothers-to-be that they need not worry about being admitted for delivery if they are COVID-19 positive. We admit all mothers for delivery. However, we request that in the event of positivity, you call this fact to 311555000 under the area code "6 - emergency delivery room line" before actually arriving at the delivery room. The reason for this appeal is the current epidemiological situation, where it is necessary to protect both the staff of our maternity ward and other mothers after childbirth as a preventive measure," adds the chief.
