On Friday 24 June 2016, a competition for children who are engaged in leisure activities dedicated to the basics of first aid took place in the Hořovice Forest Park Dražovka. The event was organized by the regional association of the Czech Red Cross (OS ČČK) Beroun with the support of the town of Hořovice and other important sponsors, including the Hořovice hospital.

The competition had been going on since the morning hours, when the teams arrived for the presentation, the official opening took place shortly after 9 o'clock. During the ceremonial entry, the competitors were welcomed by representatives of OS ČČK Beroun and good luck in the competition was wished by Jana Šrámková, vice-mayor of Hořovice. More than a hundred contestants from Hořovice, as well as from Beroun and Tetín entered the competition. The competitors completed the competition route in teams of five. On the route, the children performed various tasks, ranging from the rules of the road, recognizing herbs to treating fictitious injuries.

"The contestants faced injuries in different levels of difficulty. But despite the difficult tasks, all the patrols managed to capitalize on their knowledge and thus help the fictitious participants," described Martin Kosina, a paramedic at the Hořovice neurology department who works in his spare time for the Czech Red Cross and organized the event. As part of the accompanying programme, children could try walking with "drunken glasses", see the equipment of the Hořovice municipal police and talk to the officers.

At the end of the competition, the results were announced. In the first category (children of the first grade of primary school) the following teams were ranked: 1st Young Firefighters Tetín, 2nd Young Firefighters Tetín, 3rd 1st Elementary School Hořovice. In the second category (children of the second grade of primary school) all the winning positions were taken by the pupils of the Václav Hraběte Grammar School in Hořovice. "In the event, although it was conceived as a competition, it was not important who won. What is important is that the children are interested in how they could help others in case of need and thus be useful," added the Hořovice health worker.
