Every year, the AVAST Foundation announces a grant call as part of the TOGETHER TO THE END programme. This year's 3rd year focused on the development of palliative care within hospital facilities. The Hořovice hospital applied for the grant call together with 64 other hospitals from all over the country. And not only did it make it to the shortlist, but in a tough competition it was selected along with 18 other facilities to have its project supported 100%!

"The project for the development of palliative care at the Hořovice Hospital will start soon and will last 18 months in the first phase. However, this does not mean that everything will end," said MUDr. Mahulena Mojžíšová, head of the children's ward at Hořovice Hospital and expert guarantor of the project, who has also been working for a long time in the mobile hospice Cesta domů and since last year has been leading the Working Group on Children's Palliative Care at the Czech Society of Palliative Medicine ČLS JEP. Within the project, we will then gradually create a multidisciplinary palliative team that will work consiliently in all departments of the hospital. The plan is also to open a palliative outpatient clinic and to work closely with mobile hospice care providers. The whole project is aimed at providing specialised palliative care with the aim of providing comprehensive support not only to patients but also to their loved ones in such a difficult period of life, which dying undoubtedly is," adds the Hořovice Chief Medical Officer.

The project will focus on the training of all members of the hospital's palliative care team, which will be composed not only of health professionals (doctors and nurses), but also a psychologist, a social worker and a clergyman. It also wants to spread awareness about the care of the terminally ill among all the hospital's health care professionals, as the topic of dying and death is still a big taboo in society. "The grant funds will be mostly used for general and specialised training, which will be in the form of seminars, courses and internships," explained Bc. Jiří Pichlík, head nurse of the internal department and coordinator of the whole project. "The aim will also be to provide a maximum friendly environment within the hospital, for example by building separate, specially equipped single rooms with the possibility of permanent residence of a close person," added the Hořovice health worker. ořiHořovice
