"Clean Hands Action", as we called the campaign in the Hořovice hospital, took place in the entrance area of the hospital. Students of the Secondary Medical School in Beroun (see photo) were instructing the correct procedure of hygienic hand disinfection. Interested health professionals and visitors tried out the correct technique themselves. With the help of ultraviolet light from a special lamp, everyone could check whether they had used the disinfectant solution correctly, in sufficient quantity and on the whole hand. As a reward, the visitors received a small treat in the form of a disinfectant handkerchief or a bottle of disinfectant.
"In general, most infections are transmitted on the hands, even in health care settings where everyone should know how to follow proper procedures. It is important to know the situations in which to use disinfectant. Equally important is the correct procedure for applying sufficient disinfectant to all areas of the hands. We must not forget the fingertips and thumbs. This time, too, the campaign has shown that these are the places we most often miss when disinfecting our hands", says Mgr. Barbora Vaculíková, Deputy for Quality and Process Management at Hořovice Hospital.
"Our hospital has joined the nationwide monitoring of hand hygiene in the work of doctors, nurses and other staff as a reference healthcare facility. Dispensers with disinfectant will be freely accessible to visitors to the hospital on the ground floor and first floor of the main building. We have also created illustrative posters to remind people of the 5 basic situations for hygienic hand disinfection. We will continue the training sessions. Safe care is our priority", says Barbora Vaculíková.
