The maximum number of available police patrols were deployed to the scene. Police officers and bomb disposal experts, together with dog handlers and five dogs specially trained to detect explosives, systematically searched the hospital for several hours. The search of the entire premises was concluded with negative results – no explosives or other dangerous objects were found.
In accordance with safety procedures, the evacuation of patients and staff began. Patients remained under the supervision of medical staff at all times. The ambulance service gradually transferred 13 patients to nearby hospitals, whilst a further 63 patients were temporarily accommodated in the community centre in Hořovice, which the town of Hořovice had quickly made available for this purpose.
Patients requiring round-the-clock care and those connected to medical equipment remained in the hospital, where their safety was ensured with police assistance.
Dozens of staff from the integrated emergency services were involved in managing the emergency.
“The safety of patients and staff was our absolute priority from the very first second. We have managed the emergency and hospital operations have been fully restored. My heartfelt thanks go to the Czech Police, the fire service and the ambulance service for their lightning-fast response, and above all to our medical team for their admirable composure and professionalism. I would also like to thank all the patients and their families for their immense patience,” said Jiří Pichlík, DiS., Director of Hospital Hořovice.
The hospital would also like to thank the town of Hořovice and Mayor Věra Veverková for their immediate assistance in providing temporary accommodation for the evacuated patients at the local cultural centre, including the provision of refreshments. This assistance played a significant role in ensuring that the evacuated patients could be accommodated safely and with dignity outside the hospital grounds.
Following the completion of the bomb disposal inspection and an assessment of the security situation, patients and staff began gradually returning to the hospital. From 16:00, Hospital Hořovice has resumed normal operations.
Hospital Hořovice would like to thank all staff, patients, their loved ones, the town of Hořovice and all units of the integrated emergency response system for their cooperation, trust, patience and professional approach throughout this emergency.
Thanks to the joint efforts of all those involved , the situation was safely brought under control, the necessary care for patients was ensured, and the hospital’s normal operations have been restored.
