This already traditional event is mainly aimed at attracting young people to the idea of donation. And indeed, the first donor of today's Valentine's Day event was a very sympathetic twenty-three-year-old Monika Lhotová, a native of Hořovice, who was already sitting on the blood donation chair at seven o'clock in the morning (see photo). Today I am here for the eighteenth time," says Miss Lhotova shyly, who was the first in her family to start donating "just for the good feeling", as she puts it.
The Valentine's Day event was introduced by the long-time head nurse of the blood bank and deputy mayor of Hořovice Jana Šrámková, who could not be present this time due to illness. However, her colleagues filled in for her perfectly and played the role of hostesses very elegantly. Sister Jana Veselá thanked all the donors present on behalf of the management of the hospital in Hořovice.
The Transfusion Station organizes interesting events for donors throughout the year, such as St. Nicholas Day or concerts with well-known performers. For its donors, the Hořovice Hospital also implements a free preventive health programme, which is tailored to blood donors according to their age. This is also one of the reasons why the Hořovice transfusion station remains the most popular transfusion station for donors in the Central Bohemia Region. During the last year, Hořovice recorded a total of 10,893 blood donations, while those who came for the very first time were 483. Among them were, for example, students of the Hořovice gymnasium or coaches of the Beroun sports club SK Kelti 2008, who came to join the ranks of voluntary blood donors as part of the "Donate Celtic Blood" event.
At present, the blood transfusion department has an appointment system where the donor chooses a date to donate blood in a way that suits him/her health, work and private life. The donor can also make an appointment by calling 311 559 402 between 10.00 am - 2.00 pm or by emailing darci@nemocnice-horovice.cz.
