Although there are traditionally unsatisfactory reports about the shortage of blood before the summer holidays, the number of donors, at least at the hospital in Hořovice, is still increasing. "As of last May, we had almost 400 more donors than last year. We have 270 new donors to date. This number was recorded last year in the month of August", says with satisfaction Jana Šrámková, head nurse of the Hořovice "transfusion unit".
A number of professional and interest associations have contributed to this success. Undoubtedly, these include the traditional Hořovice mothers, members of the Police of the Czech Republic from Beroun and Rudná, students of Beroun secondary schools, but also newly donating associations, clubs and interest organizations such as the firefighters Křešín, Žebrák, Tlustice, football players FK Hořovicko, Junáci and others. The members of these associations apply for group donations on various occasions. For example, today it was members of the Hořovicko Microregion, or citizens from Cerhovice.
"We have no problem with attracting new donors. The management of the hospital is very helpful and the environment in which the donor moves is modernised and constantly improved. For us, the satisfaction of the donor is a great benefit, because such a donor is very often a guarantee that they will bring another donor, e.g. someone from their family, work or friend. We try to motivate them in various ways. I will give you an example: for about fifteen years we have been giving out tickets for blood donors to Šiklov Mill - this year we will give out 2,500 of them," explains Mrs Šrámková.
Jubilee donors, of which several hundred are registered in Hořovice, have an equally large share. One of them is Mrs Anna Němcová from nearby Zdice, who donated blood for the 80th time today. In spite of the increased need for blood from donors, the Hořovice blood bank has to regulate the number of donations to meet demand and consumption. "So we often ask specific donors by phone to come to donate blood, on the other hand, we sometimes ask donors to postpone their intention to come to donate blood by a certain day. I think we have great cooperation with the donors. We wish the donors a pleasant summer, a holiday lived according to their wishes and in any case a happy return," says Jana Šrámková.
