Hořovice Maternity Hospital U Sluneční brány celebrates 35 000 births since its foundation

29. 6. 2015

Baby number 35 000 was born on Thursday 17th June 2015 at 7:30 am. It is another of the many jubilee babies that have recently started to multiply in the Hořovice maternity hospital. Last year, a total of 1,540 babies were born in our hospital. This year, Hořovice neonatologists and obstetricians expect the same number. The 1,500 babies mark, which seemed magical a few years ago, is now a reality.

"By the end of June, the maternity hospital had already reported a total of 720 births. From the experience of previous years, we know for sure that most births occur in the summer months, especially in July, August and September. So we logically expect to come close to last year's record," says MUDr. Aleš Klán, the popular head of the gynaecology and obstetrics department. "Over the last few years, the number of births that take place here has increased significantly. We are even observing another pleasing trend - the fact that women are coming to us from further afield. One in four births comes from as far away as Prague. This cannot be explained in any other way than by the good quality of the care provided and the professional approach to mothers," says Chief Medical Officer Klán, who has been working at the Hořovice maternity hospital for more than thirty years.
Mothers are clearly satisfied with the services of the Hořovice maternity hospital. "I chose it mainly because of the family atmosphere and the kind attitude of the staff," said Libuše Smyčková, mother of little Bohumil, who became the 35,000th baby born in the 54-year history of the maternity hospital. The smiling mother comes from Suchomast and less than three years ago she brought her firstborn son Antonín into the world at the Hořovice hospital. "I can see that the hospital has made other steps for the better in the meantime. Here in the maternity hospital you have more modern equipment, the appearance of the rooms has improved, while the attitude of the staff is still very good and the head of the hospital, Klán, has no comparison", says Mrs. Smyčková. She was very pleased to receive congratulations from the head of the neonatology department, MUDr. Milena Dokoupilová and the head nurse Blanka Červenková. This "delegation" presented the mother with a package with everything necessary for the baby, prepared by the hospital pharmacy.
Not only the Chief Medical Officer Aleš Klán, but also the head nurse Blanka Červenková, who joined the Hořovice hospital exactly forty years ago, thinks that the then and today's appearance of the hospital cannot be compared! "There were few nurses, so I remember that when I got pregnant, I went to work until the last minute. I didn't start my maternity leave until fourteen days before my due date. That was then. Obstetrics has evolved a lot over the years. Nurses used to have a lot of work to do with instruments and preparation of materials, which is nowadays eliminated thanks to central sterilization and disposable equipment. On the other hand, today there are more demands on the care of the women giving birth," said Blanka Červenková, who is still happy for every healthy baby born at the Sluneční brána Maternity Hospital.
