Any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 65 can donate blood. The donor does not have to be a citizen of the Czech Republic, but should have at least long-term residence here and in any case good communication in Czech must be possible. He/she must present a valid ID card (passport in exceptional cases) and a health insurance card in the Czech Republic.
What do you need to do?
Call 311 559 402 or 311 559 555 between 10 am and 2 pm and make an appointment. Donations at our blood collection station are carried out from 6 am to 11 am every weekday. Donor registration is between 6 am - 8 am.
Minor restrictions apply prior to the donation itself, and these mainly relate to meals. Stress exercise in fitness centres is not recommended the day before or on the day of the donation as it may skew some readings. However, starvation can have the same effect. A persistent misconception is that you have to be fasting to donate blood, but this sometimes leads to a feeling of weakness after the donation. Those who are accustomed to breakfast need not skip breakfast. All you need to do is adjust your diet a little, i.e. not eat fatty foods, alcoholic drinks or milk 24 hours before the scheduled donation.
Do not forget to bring your ID and health card with you.
First of all you need to fill in the questionnaire, if you do not want to fill it in on the spot, it is possible to pre-fill it at home, it is available on our website.
This is followed by enrolment on the blood donor register, a finger prick blood sample to check your blood count and an appointment with the doctor. This is all done on the premises of the blood transfusion station. Refreshments are available at all times.
The actual collection takes between 5 and 7 minutes.
After the collection, we will issue you with an excuse slip (you are entitled to a full day off), a travel voucher, a tax-deductible receipt and a small gift from our hospital.
Your blood donor card will arrive at your address within a week.
