The creator of the devilish and exceptionally cheerful atmosphere in the Hořovice "transfusion room" was Jana Šrámková, the head nurse of the Transfusion Department, whom we have known so far in the roles of the deputy mayor of Hořovice and the jubilee donor. She also tried out the role of a restless little devil. "In the past, we celebrated Valentine's Day or organized concerts for donors at the "Transfusion Unit", but since this year we have started to regularly entertain our donors on St. Nicholas Day," says the obviously satisfied and very well-adjusted Mrs. Šrámková. The head nurse thanked all her colleagues for their cooperation in creating an unusual and cheerful atmosphere among the donors and expressed her determination to disguise herself "not only as a devil, but also as a Martian, if necessary, to better promote such a good cause as blood donation".
Let us recall once again that there are over 5,500 honorary blood donors registered in the Hořovice "transfusion" register. For several years now, around 11,000 free blood donations have taken place in Hořovice every year, of which over 550 are new. It is the largest blood donation centre in the Czech Republic. The Hořovice Transfusion Department also cooperates very closely with the Czech Registry of Hematopoietic Cell Donors.
Hořovice's "transfusion department" is very grateful to several dozen members of associations or work collectives who regularly come to Hořovice to donate blood. For example, on Friday, 5 December, during a joyful celebration of St. Nicholas Day, we met a uniformed Mrs. Marcela Pučelíková, spokesperson for the Beroun Police, who together with twenty colleagues came to donate blood again after a quarter of a year. An important role in the success of the Hořovice "transfusion" is played by several hundred jubilee donors who come here to donate the most important and irreplaceable liquid several times a year. One of them is Ivana Svobodová (57), a worker at Korona in Lochovice. "I started donating blood in 1979. My family brought me to donate. My mother used to donate blood as long as her age allowed. My brother is a blood donor, as are my sons. Now I have a 14-year-old grandson who is looking forward to donating blood in four years," says the Hořovice native proudly, who took home not only a good mood and a great feeling, but also a bouquet and an honorary plaque of the jubilarian. "I like coming here very much. There is always a very pleasant atmosphere here, especially today when Mrs. Šrámková and the sisters welcomed us in the disguise of little devils," says Mrs. Svobodová.
